A Clover Solution for a waning industry
Today, Myanmar has about 40 cinemas – or ten times less than in the early 1980s. As a result, producers often have to wait years before their movies are screened. U Lwin Moe, Managing Director of Maze, observed the situation with dismay: “Even in a populous area like Mawlamying, there wasn’t a single cinema to be found.” So he decided to act.
In an effort to turn the tide, Maze and technology integrator Clover Solutions vowed to built 100 new cinemas in Myanmar over the next two years, prioritizing towns without a movie theater first. Moe: “Only by building more cinemas can we save the film industry, but we need to attract audiences with good-quality theaters.”
Feel the Alchemy
In their search for the ideal projection technology, Clover and Maze chose Barco’s digital cinema projector with Alchemy server: a powerful yet compact digital cinema projector for every screen size. Merging the projector and media server functionalities into one single module, the projector offers increased simplicity and reliability, along with Barco’s trademark image quality and low cost of ownership.
So far, two cinemas are already being built: one in Aungban, Kalaw township in Rangoon’s Taik Kyin and in Shan State’s Aungban townships. In November, the construction of the remaining 98 cinema’s – each of which will have 316 seats – will commence.
