Barco and VizExperts seize award at SIIA for dazzling Science City Kolkata exhibit

The largest science center in India, Kolkata’s Science City aims to bring science to the youth of India. To inspire and motivate its audience, the museum takes an interactive approach – in April 2016, they engaged Barco partner VizExperts for the installation of the Human Evolution exhibit in the Science Exploration Hall, a panoramic, visual exhibit illustrating human evolution, powered by 8 Barco HDX projectors. On 12 September at the InfoComm trade show in Mumbai, this innovative Barco exhibit got a premium museum category award for ‘Best Application of AV’ during the 2016 Systems Integration India Awards.

A passion for science, an eye for premium audiovisual technology

Science City has been a popular destination for young people in Kolkata, attracting over 25 million visitors since it opened in 1997. With the objective of using cutting-edge projection and visualization equipment to attract and wow visitors, Science City turned to ace systems integrator and Barco partner VizExperts for assistance.

The Science Exploration Hall of Science City is now equipped with 8 Barco HDX-W20 FLEX projectors, mounted on a custom canopy, that display a seamless panoramic image onto a 10m-high cylindrical screen that is 39 meters in diameter.

Recognized for integration excellence by an international panel

The Systems Integration India Awards recognize excellence in the design of audiovisual technology systems across a wide range of applications within India, completed by Indian systems integrators and consultants. In addition, the event seeks to showcase to the public how AV impacts productivity, energy savings and operations. After consulting together, VizExperts and Barco decided to enter the Science Exploration Hall project into the 2016 Systems Integration India Awards, held at the InfoComm trade show in Mumbai.

During a ceremony that took place on 12 September, VizExperts was presented with the ‘Best Application of AV in Museums category award in the premium budget segment (10 crore INR and more, or USD 1.5 million and more) for the project. The award was bestowed by an international panel of 6 judges that had no prior knowledge of the companies or suppliers involved in the submitted projects.
