KITCHENER, Ont. – (September 23, 2013) – Christie®, a world leader in advanced cinema technologies and visual displays, is proud to serve as the official digital projection partner for both the Calgary International Film Festival (CIFF) taking place from September 19 to 29, and the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF), running from September 26 through October 11.
While Christie has been a sponsor in past years, this is the first year that Christie has served as official digital projection partner for the Calgary event. Christie is proudly celebrating its 12th year as the official digital projection partner for the annual Vancouver festival of film.
Kathryn Cress, vice president, global and corporate marketing at Christie, noted that Christie’s digital solutions have helped festivals as well as the industry in general with the transition to digital projection. “Christie’s state-of-the-art projection technologies and skilled business partners make our digital projectors the preferred choice for leading film festivals across the globe, including the Toronto, Cannes and Shanghai Film Festivals, as well as the British Film Institute.”

Christie will be providing a Christie Solaria® Series CP2230 DLP Cinema® projector for the CIFF, considered the largest film festival between the Rockies and the Great Lakes.
“We are delighted to welcome Christie as our official digital projection partner for this year’s festival,” said Stephen Schroeder, Executive Director, CIFF. “We are excited that Christie’s reliable digital cinema projectors will help us showcase the best possible cinema experience for the more than 200 multi-genre films from around the world during the 11 days of our festival.”
Vancouver Renews Long Relationship with Christie
“We’re glad to have Christie back supporting us,” said Alan Franey, Festival Director & CEO, Vancouver International Film Festival. “Our patrons deserve the best in movie clarity, colour and brilliance, which is what Christie delivers.”
Christie’s contribution to the VIFF includes providing one Christie Solaria® One projector, two Solaria CP2210 projectors and three CP2220 digital projectors from its industry-leading Christie Solaria line, as well as six Cine-IPM 2K image processors for the Vancouver event, which now ranks among the five largest film festivals in North America. ZOOM Audio Visual Networks Inc. is in charge of supplying, installing and maintaining the Christie equipment during the Festival.
VIFF and Christie business partner Michael Stewart, president, ZOOM Audio Visual Networks Inc., said: “Christie continues to be the choice of film festivals worldwide for its industry-leading projection solutions. The stunning resolution and clarity of picture is essential to realizing the film makers vision, which is why I always appreciate using Christie digital cinema technology. It always delivers superior brightness, color, depth and content security.”
An anticipated 150,000 attendees will have the opportunity to choose from more than 350 films at this year’s VIFF. The international lineup includes selections from the world’s top film festivals as well as numerous titles from smaller studios and providers. VIFF screens the largest selection of East Asian films outside of that region, is one of the biggest showcases of Canadian film in the world and includes a large and significant non-fiction program.
“Our participation in major film festivals is part of our commitment to the Canadian and international film industry,” said Dave Muscat, Christie’s senior director of sales for Canada. “CIFF and VIFF are leading film festivals and we are very proud to help them ensure the best projection experience for their patrons.”
