As a result of this, the major trends we’ve seen over the last 12 months include the rise of the huddle room, the switch to 4K resolution displays and monitors and an even stronger focus on cybersecurity. But with all of this in mind, what will the workplace of 2017 look like?
It’s all about BYOD
Our laptops are no longer the only things we use to get work done. Whether we’re travelling on a train or sitting in a café, an ever-increasing number of us are using tablets and smartphones to send emails, write documents and create presentations.
Known as the bring your own device (BYOD) approach, it’s been touted as the next big way of working for a while now, but we’ve finally got to a point where the majority of workplaces are equipped well enough to fully cater for it. Thanks to the rise of proximity detection technologies like Bluetooth, workers will be able to easily share the content on their devices on the big display in a meeting room, making for smoother working without any wires.
Virtual reality will be realised
After seeing the potential of virtual reality (VR) within gaming, e-commerce and beyond, there’s no doubt that 2017 will be the year where businesses begin to realise the potential that it holds for offices and meeting rooms. Imagine being able to have workers from different offices across the globe all sitting together in one virtual meeting room, or being able to create immersive, 3D presentations that others can interact with at will? We’re not saying this will be happening in the next year, but businesses will certainly start thinking of the possibilities available to them.
Millennials continue to rule
The number of millennials being introduced to offices and meeting rooms is only going to increase, and so businesses who haven’t already adapted to accommodate them will be forced to. With a focus on hot-desking, informal, collaborative spaces and flexible working, millennials will continue to influence new trends that will help to boost creativity and productivity.
